Vindolanda Visit

Despite the cold wind and rain, Year 4 enjoyed becoming archaeologists and historians as they explored Vindolanda near Hexham. We looked around the ruins and discussed the layout of the settlement before taking a closer look at some artifacts. The children were impressed with the condition of the remains, even after all this time underground. Looking around the site allowed children to use clues to help them identify what buildings were.

Comments from children were positive and they enjoyed the first hand experience of visiting somewhere Romans actually lived. Finlay C thought it made him feel more like a Roman would have, while Eve was impressed with the shoes that had been recovered. Discovering that dogs lived at Vindolanda was a highlight of Chloe's day!
