Every child at Hunwick Primary School engages in quality music education from their entry in EYFS until the end of KS2 in Year 6.  In the Early Years, music is incorporated consistently into daily routines and is used to enhance teaching of the core curriculum in addition to being taught as a stand-alone subject.  In KS1 and KS2, pupils participate in weekly assemblies and a curriculum music lesson with their teacher. Hunwick Primary School works closely with Durham Music Service and weekly peripatetic lessons are held in school.

Quality and progression is at the heart of all we do, ensuring that pupils get the most out of their music making and that there is always a clear progression route to foster aspiration and challenge within their learning. We strive to make sure every pupil gains insight and depth in their musical education. Highlights of the musical calendar include ‘The Big Sing’ and our annual carol concert.
