Premium Allocations

Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium funding is additional funding allocated to all schools to support disadvantaged pupils. Hunwick Primary School receives pupil premium for: children that are cared for or adopted from care; children whose parents are in the armed forces; and for every pupil who has received free school meals over the past 6 years.

How can I find out if my child is entitled to the Pupil Premium funding?

The process for applying is straightforward and confidential. You can speak to a member of the office staff by calling 01388 602150 (9am-4pm), who will be able to assist you through this process. All enquires will be treated in confidence.

Children in Reception and KS1 are automatically entitled to a free school lunch; however, registering your child for free meals will help them to receive additional support, as well as raising additional funds for the school.

Summary of barriers to educational achievement faced by eligible pupils at the school.

Children eligible for pupil premium may come into school below national expectations in many areas of the curriculum especially in the areas of listening and attention, understanding, reading, writing and numbers. This low base line leads to the importance of additional support throughout the school to narrow the gap. Many children eligible for pupil premium may also lack confidence and resilience. Poor attendance can also be a barrier for some pupils; good attendance is key to effective learning and good progress.

How is the funding used?

We look for individual ways to support each child to achieve their very best.  We do this by offering our children a wide range of opportunities and ensuring that these are accessible for everyone. We work with our families and colleagues to make sure everyone has high aspirations for all pupils. We ensure children eligible for pupil premium are well represented across a range of activities and clubs, and have a voice through our school council.

We measure the impact of pupil premium by closely monitoring our intervention programmes through learning walks, pupil progress meetings, data and work scrutiny.

The impact of this is reviewed termly and the final impact assessed during Summer term.

PE and Sports Premium

At Hunwick Primary School, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children.

Our Primary School Sport’s Funding will enable us to continue and extend our provision through employing additional sports professionals, entering into more competitive sports competitions and training our staff to deliver in-house quality PE sessions.

The Government has given every Primary School funding to develop Physical Education and competitive sport. The long-term aim at Hunwick Primary School is to:

  • have highly skilled teachers; to continually improve the teaching and learning in quality P.E. lessons;
  • have improved learning for all the pupils;
  • have increased pupil participation in non-competitive and competitive sport;
  • provide varied sporting opportunities across the school and to support the physical health and mental well-being of all our pupils.

We will continue to work with our partnerships to ensure teachers continually strive to improve their practice and ensure the school has sustainable high-quality teaching and learning in P.E.

Mrs Barker, P.E. leader coordinates competitive sporting events, extra-curricular activities and leadership programmes. As we are a small team, all teachers and teaching assistants work alongside Mrs Barker to assist with the activities delivered on a lunch time, after-school activities and competitions.

Hunwick Primary School is involved with a Sports Partnership run by Education Enterprise. We use funding to work with this partnership to:

  • Provide staff with professional development, mentoring, training to improve their confidence and quality of the P.E. being delivered in teaching the P.E. curriculum.
  • Hire qualified sports coaches (where appropriate) to work with teachers to enhance or extend current sporting opportunities.
  • Increase the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity.
  • Increase the range of competitive sports in which our pupils participate.
  • Make links to other community sports providers.
  • Develop additional clubs and activities for pupils, both within and outside the curriculum.
  • Encourage our pupils to improve their leadership skills through sport.
  • Give extra support in P.E. to our most talented children and include those with special needs in sport.
  • Broaden the sporting experiences offered to our pupils
  • Embed physical activity into the school day through active travel to and from school, active playgrounds and active teaching.

At Hunwick Primary School we will continue to provide high quality teaching and learning of P.E. and increase the profile of sport and physical activity for all our pupils. We will subsidise the cost of travel and admission to competitions, events and festivals. In addition to this we will continue to increase sporting participation for our pupils who are reluctant to take part in physical activity.

We aim to give pupils the opportunity to try something different in small group situations in school and within local festivals. We are proud of our swimming programme, and will continue to use one of our staff members to work alongside the swimming teachers to ensure our pupils can swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres. We will also continue to provide opportunities for our pupils to increase their levels of physical activity throughout the school day, in and outside the classroom. Increased levels of physical activity, not only improves physical health and mental wellbeing, but also concentration levels, mood and behaviour. We are committed to improving the health and lifestyle of all our pupils. We aim to give every pupil the opportunity to engage in sporting physical activities and competitions through our extensive lunch time and after-school opportunities. We have a dedicated staff who value the importance of P.E. and sport and are consistently looking to improve.
